The term “Hackathon” (new word coming from the “hackers’ world)
indicates a meeting where hackers and computer science experts meet up for a cooperative session. It is a kind of brainstorming to launch new ideas and to plan softwares and applications that can be useful for people who deal with technologies, development and growth. The philosophy of the hackathon manifests itself in the “programming” activity, but above all in the approach that has to be free from too detailed assignments and from imposed methodologies.
The scope is to involve and to include in the processes of citizens’ involvement the energies and the creativity of young people, who will work and create these applications starting from the proposed topics. The actual context in which we live underlines two phenomena that move away from the recent past. The first one is the exigency of sharing emotions, facts and episodes; the second one is the need to do all this in “real time”. The success of the social network and, more in general, of the web world are the extreme synthesis of this culture: a skyscraper whose pillars are transparency, speed and community, where society can express freely its potential. To catch the opportunities offered by this reality means from one side to go closer to some targets such as young people in a new and more attracting way, and from the other hand to use its potentials to provide the community with new and useful services at low costs.
The Hackathon is indeed a marathon of brains where passion mangle with creativity, phisical and mental tiredness with the joy of seeing born something that you can never image. Some hours or some days to realize your ideas with the experts support and with the possibility to work on National and International issues.
The Hackathon project represents indeed a new and immediate way to communicate with the concrete advantage of being, at the same time, a real time channel of communication.
